JOB title: Lead Operator

REPORTS TO: Molding Manager

Job Classification: Non-Exempt

Job Status: Full Time; 3rd shift/Graveyard 10:00PM 6:30AM; $3.00 shift differential


Job purpose:
Facilitate workflow on the molding production floor in support of Operators, Setup and Molding Technicians.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Uphold the Tool Gauge fundamentals in all aspects of job performance.
  • Assign Operators to specific jobs (cleaning, re-work, etc.) and work centers.
  • Produce product based on operator work instructions and quality requirements.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Shift Lead and the In-Process Inspector (QA), monitoring the overall efficiency (scrap rates, cycle times, or equipment related issues) of each press running. This also includes consistent production downtimes for each running press.
  • Ensure work cells are setup with required safety equipment, tools for operation, packaging supplies, and documentation needed to facilitate production.
  • Close out a job by completing all: documentation (work order), correct counts (packaging), labor reporting (Workorder/IQMS), scrap entered (IQMS), and inventory returned (inserts).
  • Inspect products for obvious defects, produced by the current shift, and institute plans for correction. Keep accurate count of good and rejected product.
  • Ensure operators are recording good and rejected parts and audit the accuracy of the documentation.
  • Train operators per the work instructions, to perform job specific duties prior to the start of each job.
  • Ensure operators are reading, acknowledging (signing), and performing their job per the work instructions.
  • Provide feedback to Production Planning with regards to work instruction clarification or revision.
  • Provide accurate labor reporting, both digitally (IQMS) and physically (work orders).
  • Package product based on work instructions and assign acceptance stickers.
  • Combine partial boxes of multiple Operators to create full box counts.
  • One half hour before the end of the shift, have completed all necessary documentation and tasks on anything currently running.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Stage parts with paperwork after every job is complete.
  • Palletize daily orders with paperwork for transport to inventory or finished goods.
  • Advise the Molding Manager regarding performance reviews for the Operator and Shift Floater positions:
  • Train all levels of Operators and Shift Floater.
  • Plan and relieve Operators for their breaks.
  • Perform all Essential Functions in a safe manner, including the use of PPE when necessary.


NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Take on 5S Lean tasks and projects at the discretion of the Molding Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge
, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in the Tool Gauge ERP system (IQMS) as it pertains to the position of Lead Operator.
  • Operate a pallet jack and forklift.
  • Setup and operate inkjet part maker, bandsaw, router, auto-bagger, and production fixtures.
  • Ability to train Lead Operator and Shift Floater.
  • Effective communication:
    • Able to speak, read, and write English.
    • Able to keep accurate quantity records.
    • Able to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Able to work in fast paced environment.
  • Manual dexterity to handle and manipulate plastic parts.
  • Proficient at multi-tasking.
  • Team oriented.
  • Efficient and action driven.
  • Motivated self-starter. Able to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Dependable with reliable attendance.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a contract manufacturing organization preferred.

The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Able to stand for 10 to 12 hours. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to see with 20/20 vision to assess cosmetic requirements.
